Sense of Place Series
This new series has been inspired by the forests I visit and live, from Muskoka, Toronto, Ottawa, Peterborough, Oshawa and all the land around and in between. This work embodies the connection of the human condition animating experiential interactions and identifies the figure with in the landscape as a cultural symbol. These paintings are inspired by the inherent relationship of nature and humans encompassing my experiences, reflecting the human connection in nature that surrounds us everyday.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Painting from land, place and culture
Lake Ontario and Muskoka Watersheds
My current thoughts.........
I choose subjects based on my observations in the places and spaces I live, constructing compositions from experiential reality. The paintings are perceptions of change that have altered the environment, bringing to mind and revealing the unseen stories in the landscape. This new series, Backyard and Beyond are painted images that have symbolic narratives in terms of their interconnectedness to the land, resilience, survival, documenting environmental changes in the landscapes I inhabit. I incorporate mediums and materials that directly come from the land, and the community. In the past I painted local landscapes on reused press plates, on the reverse of these paintings were the stories of people and events that shaped the communities' landscapes. I continue to mine local landscape for materials making natural pigments specificiy wild grape from the shores of Lake Ontario and wild elder berry from the Muskoka River. My subjects connect to the fragility of ecosystems affected by urban sprawl and identify all landscapes through experiential cultural narratives.
