ARTIST STATEMENT
Painting from land, place and culture
Wendy Wallace is a graduate from the University of Toronto, Sheridan College, and University of Ontario. Wallace has received many grants from the Ontario Arts Council and Canada Council. Wallace's work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and her works are in several public and private permanent collections.
I choose subjects based on my observations in the places and spaces I travel through, constructing compositions from experiential reality. The paintings are perceptions of change that have altered the environment, bringing to mind the interconnectedness of people, trees, water, land and architecture revealing narratives and stories in the landscapes of southern, central and eastern Ontario. Overall my images encompass my experiential connections in nature, becoming cultural narratives.
